Testimony from the Players...

K.J. Harris, RB

John Colbert is the best coach I never played for.  I played against him coming up through middle school.  After high school when it came time for me to go to college he helped me when my high school coach wouldn't.  That says a lot about a man who wasn't even my coach.  It shows you that he was a man trying to help a kid achieve his goals.  He was the one who made phone calls, made highlight videos and sent them out to numerous universities across the country.  When it was time to make my decision about what school I wanted to attend I didn't sit down with family and friends, I sat down with John Colbert.  Together, we made the best decision about where I should play college football. Until this day Coach Colbert is a guy who I don't just pick up the phone to talk about football with, he is someone I can call and talk to about life.  He is the type of coach, man, and friend that everyone should have in their corner.

Coach Colbert is the epitome of hard work.  His tireless effort, his relentless desire, and compassion for me, as well as my teammates, taught me the true definition of what being a student-athlete was all about.  One thing that he said that has always stuck with me and has helped me to become successful, not only as a student-athlete but also in life is... "Mind over Matter"...  If you don't mind then it doesn't matter.

Thanks for everything coach,

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Coach Colbert since 1999. He is a person of honesty and discipline.  He had a major impact on my life as a young athlete.  Coach preached the importance of working hard to achieve your goals because nothing in life is handed to you.  His life is a story of perseverance and consistency.  He is the person you want on your side because he is loyal and won’t give up.  Thank you coach for instilling in me the tools it took for me to succeed and the memories acquired along the way.

Coach Colbert helped mold me into the man and athlete I am today.  He taught me the definition of being mentally strong and to fight through adversity.  He was great coach to me; he taught me how to be man on and off the field.  I have so much admiration and appreciation for Coach Colbert.  I can’t say thanks enough for what he did for me.

I began playing for Coach John Colbert my Junior year of high school - I had no previous experience playing organized football.  I began playing because I thought it would help with admission to the United States Air Force Academy.  I was accepted to the Air Force Academy spring of my senior year.  I wasn't accepted because I was an All-Conference player, Honorable Mention All-State, or an Academic All-Star.  I was accepted because of John Colbert.  I saw the pride on his face when four other players and myself signed our letters of intent, the most players signed at once in that school's history (at that time).  Fast forward a year later, things hadn't worked out for me at the Academy and I had nowhere to go. I called John Colbert, within a week I was visiting Georgia Southern University as a prospective preferred walk-on.  Best thing that ever happened to me. I eventually earned a full scholarship. The moral of the story is - without John Colbert, none of this happens.  Without him, my football career would have ended in High School.  John Colbert is successful because he believes in what he's doing.  I'm successful because he believed in me.

Coach Colbert greatly helped in starting the recruiting process for me my senior year. After the end of my senior season, really nothing was happening as far as offers are concerned. A couple of my teammates and I went to Coach Colbert for some assistance and he gladly helped us put together our recruiting info for us that contained our academc records and highlights then sent them out across the nation. It really created a great starting point for where I was looking to go and he made sure to check with me regularly to see if everything was going all well with the process. I appreciate everything he has done for me and I know my old teammates do as well because he made sure to try his best in helping us get started on where to look at. He is not only a great coach but a better person and I appreciate all his help.

I am going into my second year of College as a red-shirt freshman at Wofford College. I was recruited and signed to Wofford as a Nose Gaurd from West Orange High School.  My Senior year was very successful and Coach Colbert helped me put together a highlight film and made it accessible to every college football program in the nation. Coach Colbert helped trigger a lot of interest in me from many programs like Florida Atlantic, West Point, and Wofford College.  Every program that contacted Coach Colbert was forwarded to me and had very positive things to say regarding their past encounters with Coach John Colbert as far as recruiting. I am forever thankful for his assistance and gratitude towards me and my family. With his help I can proudly be an example to my siblings as the first in my family to attend College.

Coach Colbert played a huge roll in my transition from High-school to College. I am very thankful that I had Coach Colbert help me along the way because without his effort and desire to help student athletes like me, I probably would not have the same opportunities I have now.  Since the day we sat down to gather all my recruiting information like physical attributes and academic credentials I knew that his experience and knowledge would help me find a place for me to continue my education while having the opportunity to perform in the football field.  Coach even gave me information sheets about what to look for in a university or college and what kind of questions I should be asking in order to make the best decision for me and also my family.  I can honestly say that it was a blessing to have Coach Colbert by my side, pushing me and encouraging me while helping me open doors for my future.

Coach Colbert was very helpful in the recruiting process. He was able to give great advice and perspective into what college coaches want to see in your film and also what you as the player need to do in the offseason in order to help you with the transition to college football. I gave my information to Coach Colbert after National Signing Day and I had no options available at that time. Within a matter of days of Coach Colbert sending my information out I had received various responses from D 1AA all the way down to NAIA schools. I had many schools offer me various options from being able to come out and get a scholarship the following year to many different types of  scholarship packages. Coach Colbert poured so much hard work and effort into helping me get recruited and find a college. With all his various connections from playing college football and coaching highschool football. If you want to play at the collegiate level there is a college out there that you can play at and he will help you find it.

I am a former Defensive Back at West Orange High School, in Winter Garden, FL.  In the 2011-12 season, I switched my position after playing Wide Reciever for 3 years.  I led all DB's with 31 tackles, 10 Pass Break Ups, and 4 INTs.  After an amazing senior season, my goal was to play on the next level.  Coach John Colbert helped make my goal possible.  He sent my highlight video out to every college coach in the country and I recieved positive responses in no time.  With his help I was able to get to Bluefield College in Bluefield, VA.  I'm on a mission, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the man, Coach Colbert!

Coach Colbert played a big part in my recruitment out of high school.  It wasn't how I wanted it to be due to the fact I had low grades but with the help of Coach Colbert he was able to work with me.  He helped find a Junior College that was willing to give me a scholarship.  I’m very thankful for the help he gave me with the recruiting process.  He is a great coach and teacher of the game.
